Week 1 Summary and Resources

Have you ever considered the question: "Why Did Jesus Come to Earth?"
Following the recommendation of Brian Fikkert in his book When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor . . . and Yourself, we began this week by asking this question and writing down concise answers to the question.

Following a consideration of what Luke 4:17-21 and Isaiah 61 have to say about the reason(s) Jesus came, the group was challenged to consider whether we are called to similar tasks (as appropriate to our abilities as humans.)

Polling the group for suggestions, we considered some possible definitions, meanings, synonyms, etc. for "justice".

"Justice: the practical result of loving God and loving others."[1]

Week 1 Challenge: Consider whether you can believe it possible that our daily consumer decisions promote or discourage justice on a global scale. IF so, the next 5 weeks should provide opportunity to find at least one area where we as individuals can commit to the promotion of global justice by our consumer decisions.
